After School Drama Classes Fall 2006


Classes meet Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30 for students ages 6-18. The classes include improvisational games, audition techniques, voice and diction and interpretative reading, introduction to public speaking, movement for the actor, mime, creative drama and acting techniques.

Students are featured in Aesop’s Fables at the Columbia Greek Festival with the Patchwork Players, in The Night Before Christmas with The Patchwork Players, and perform in April in a final production. Class size is limited to insure a quality experience.

Tuition is 50.00 per month, plus a 10.00 registration fee. The first month’s tuition and registration will hold your student’s place. Classes begin Sept. 5th.

Gene Eaker, Theater Instructor

Patchwork Players

 

Gene was on the staff of the Columbia College Drama Department for over thirty years. During that time he served as instructor of drama, scenic designer, director, and chairman of the department. After leaving the college in 1995 he has continued his role as educator through the SC Arts Commission approved Patchwork residency and workshop program. He has taught creative drama classes K-5 at Redcliff Elementary, all the kindergarten classes in Lexington District Two, elementary classes at Logan Elementary, served as drama instructor for Brockman Montessori School in Richland Two and in numerous elementary, middle and high school drama classes throughout the state.

Gene is the After-School drama instructor at Saluda River Academy of the Arts and at Burnside Elementary School in Richland One.

Patchwork Players

 

Genie Eaker is the founder (in 1980) and managing director of the Patchwork Players, a professional performing group doing plays for family and young audiences. She is a graduate of the Speech/Drama Department of Columbia College where she served as an artist in residence after graduation for fourteen years. She continued her studies with Gene Lesser of the Julliard Faculty, Drama Education with Brian Way, movement with Dr. James Hancock of Southern Methodist University and Jill Dalton from the Kipnis School of Mime. Genie has been on the SC Arts Commission’s roster of approved artists for twenty -four years.

Genie has performed throughout the Southeast and abroad in performances for young audiences and may be seen regularly on public television and pm the SCETV network, including The Snow Queen, The Emperor’s New Clothes, A Medley of Mime, and Jennifer, Gee!
